Madrid, January 28, 2021.- The Council of Ibero-American Entrepreneurs (CEIB), whose Permanent Secretariat is held by the Spanish Confederation of Business Organizations (CEOE), the Ibero-American Federation of Young Entrepreneurs (FIJE) and Madrid Platform have signed a collaboration agreement at the CEOE headquarters in Madrid, with the aim of fostering and promoting joint collaboration for the development and dissemination of initiatives and projects to further their shared goals. One of the landmark projects is the organization of a major Ibero-American Business Forum, to be held during the Madrid Platform event in May 2021 at the Palacio de Cibeles in Madrid, with the support of Madrid’s City Council.

The Ibero-American General Secretariat (SEGIB), present at the signing of the agreement, lent its support to this initiative.

What is Madrid Platform?

Madrid Platform is envisaged as a new way of doing business and of connecting companies across borders and sectors.  It seeks to position Madrid as a meeting place and a key actor in international relations between Europe and America. The project seeks to connect more than 500 companies from Europe and Latin America to explore real business opportunities through personalized one-on-one meetings, rounds of presentations for emerging companies and active networking events. The event will also bring together leading  experts to hear and explore their views on the future of companies, institutions and society as a whole, as we embrace the so-called “new normal”, while at the same time creating synergies between SMEs in Europe and Latin America at a time of social distancing. To further the Platform’s aims, the organization is preparing a mixed-format event (physical and virtual) for May 2021. The goal is to foster a conversation among experts and leading players around the main issues of interest on the global agenda and, specifically, aspects that directly affect Ibero-American countries.

Narciso Casado, permanent secretary of CEIB hailed the agreement, saying that it represents a clear example of institutional collaboration, and one which underscores the importance of leadership and of endowing institutions that work in the Ibero-American business environment with a new permanent space that brings together business organizations and companies from Latin America and Europe. It also complements the work that CEIB, SEGIB and FIJE have been carrying out for many years. “A prestigious event such as this one in Madrid – a real bridge between Europe and Latin America – will undoubtedly be an important boost to relations between both regions,” he added.

Antonio Magraner, Permanent Secretary of FIJE highlighted the importance of this alliance for young Latin American entrepreneurs particularly in these uncertain times. Dialogue and exchange of experiences is essential, he said. Pablo Adrián Hardy, head of Economy and Business at SEGIB, who acted as a witness at the signing of the agreement, said that “Madrid Platform will undoubtedly contribute to strengthening the close ties that unite businesspeople from both sides of the Atlantic, and will be an enormous boost to the development of the Ibero-American business space ”.

Meanwhile, Carlos Morales, general director of Madrid Platform, said he was  excited to welcome the institutions to the project, adding: “To think that all the institutions that are joining us today are based in the city of Madrid is cause for celebration in itself; but each of them has also made a commitment to sharing a vision of the future in international relations, in which Madrid will play a leading role as a business hub between Europe and America. This reinforces the idea that Madrid Platform generates confidence and has the capacity to attract businesses. The International Business Forum that these organizations are set to hold under the auspices of Madrid Platform will be an example for many other companies, and will, no doubt, encourage them to become part of this project that is set to create real value”

CEIB, in its relations with Ibero-American business organizations, has shown its firm commitment to collaborating on economic and social development processes in member countries, and it energetically champions the interests and rights of entrepreneurs in Ibero-America; FIJE represents the interests of young entrepreneurs and works to generate opportunities and improve their competitiveness. It is part of a business network with a direct presence in 17 countries. SEGIB promotes institutional relations and business to boost social progress in all countries in Latin America. To this end, it organizes high-level meetings with decision makers and stakeholders, as well as programs aimed at promoting research and knowledge and understanding in the fields of education, social cohesion and culture. Madrid Platform, the first ever International Business HUB between Europe and Latin America, is envisaged as a new way of doing business and of connecting companies across borders and sectors.  It is conceived as a high-added-value ecosystem connecting companies seeking growth and international expansion while also contributing to the economic and social development of European and Latin American countries. And, crucially, Madrid is positioned at the hub of this business ecosystem business.

The Council of Ibero-American Entrepreneurs – CEIBwas established in 2015 and has its permanent headquarters at the Spanish Confederation of Business Organizations (CEOE) in Madrid. It represents the top business organizations of the Ibero-American world  and was created to ensure permanent dialogue across the region. It is made up of the 24 most representative business organizations of the Ibero-American countries belonging to the International Organization of Employers (IOE).

The Ibero-American Federation of Young Entrepreneurs (FIJE) is a non-profit organization founded in 2008 by organizations representing young entrepreneurs from 17 countries. Its chief goal is to ensure that economic development goes hand-in-hand with socio-environmental responsibility, and it is considered the largest representative body of young entrepreneurs in Ibero-America. It brings together more than 150,000 young entrepreneurs in search of business development through local and international organizations and bodies.

The Ibero-American General Secretariat (SEGIB) is an international organization that supports the 22 countries that make up the Ibero-American community. Its purpose is to support the organization of the Ibero-American Summits of Heads of State and Government – thereby helping them to fulfill their mandates – while also promoting Ibero-American Cooperation in the fields of education, social cohesion and culture. As an institution, it is built around the core values that unite the countries of the region and that are seen as key to understanding in Latin America.
